Study Purpose
The study aims to understand the clinical impact of the Cionic Neural Sleeve1 for
individuals diagnosed with MS using outcomes related to fatigue, spasticity, quality of life, and
activity levels.
Ideal Candidates
Ideal candidates are those who...
Have relapsing-remitting or progressive forms of MS
Are an adult between the ages of 22 and 75
Are willing to make 4 visits to Cleveland State University’s research lab
Are able to walk at least 15 minutes throughout the day for 5 days per week, with or
without assistive devices
You are not able to join if you…
Have absent sensation or an inadequate response to stimulation in the impacted or more
impacted leg
Require an ankle foot orthosis (AFO)/knee ankle foot orthosis (KAFO) to walk
Have a history of falls greater than once a week
Have a malignant tumor, existing thrombosis, or fracture/dislocation in the impacted or
more impacted leg
Have implanted demand-type cardiac pacemakers or defibrillators
Participation in the study may take up to 18 weeks. The study will require volunteers to visit
Cleveland State University’s research lab in Cleveland, Ohio on 4 occasions and take part in a
walking program. The 12-week walking program requires participants to walk for at least 15
minutes per day for 5 days per week while wearing an activity monitor and the Cionic Neural
Sleeve for a 6-week period. The 2-hour lab visits will require participants to provide blood
samples, and complete assessments of spasticity, balance, walking, range of motion, and
strength. Participants will also complete questionnaires about the impact of MS and their daily
activity level. Participants will receive an Amazon gift card for each testing session completed.
Safety & COVID Precautions:
Your safety is our primary concern and we have implemented a safety and sterilization protocol in response to COVID-19. This includes:
Pre and Post cleaning to disinfect all surfaces, common areas, and testing space
Pre and Post cleaning to disinfect the Cionic Neural Sleeve, chairs, and railings (everything you would touch as a participant)
The number of people allowed at the research site will be limited
All people entering the site will be asked about any recent COVID exposures
The research team will wear masks upon request by the participant to minimize exposure to communicable diseases
